Iconic for its joyful, high-energy connection, swing is built on rhythm, coordination, and confidence. No experience? No partner? No problem. Whether you're an absolute beginner, or a competitive dancer, come solo—you will rotate partners throughout the hour!🔁
💡 About East Coast Swing and Lindy Hop
East Coast Swing (ECS) is a rotational, spot dance that evolved from the more complex Lindy Hop in the 1940s. While Lindy Hop is often called the grandfather of all swing dances, originating in Harlem ballrooms during the Jazz Age, East Coast Swing simplified the footwork, making it the most common six-count variation taught today. Both styles share the foundation of the Triple Step rhythm and an unmistakable high-energy, joyful connection.
The main difference is their structure: East Coast Swing is built primarily on 6-count patterns and is danced primarily in a relaxed circle, whereas Lindy Hop is defined by its 8-count phrases and the iconic Swing Out.
Did you know? Lindy Hop was named after Charles Lindbergh’s famous 1927 solo "hop" across the Atlantic. Dancers at the Savoy Ballroom joked that the popular new step was as big a leap as Lindbergh's. 🔥
